A fire broke out in the early hours of Thursday, December 26, on the 13th floor of a residential building on Boulevard d’Italie, prompting a major emergency response from Monaco’s fire brigade…
The alarm was raised at around 4 a.m., with firefighters arriving swiftly to contain the blaze inside an apartment located high in the tower.
As reported by Monaco Matin, the operation required the deployment of significant resources, including ten fire engines, two hose lines and a total of 33 firefighters. The fire was brought under control without any reported injuries, though the incident caused understandable alarm among residents. As a precaution, 25 people were evacuated from the building and assessed by a doctor from the Princess Grace Hospital. None required hospitalisation.
While the precise cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed, the Monaco fire brigade has reiterated its seasonal warnings about the heightened risk of domestic fires during the festive period, particularly those linked to Christmas decorations. Dry Christmas trees and faulty electrical garlands can ignite extremely quickly if safety precautions are not followed.
Firefighters are urging residents to use only CE-certified decorative lights, to keep Christmas trees well away from heat sources, and to unplug lighting systems before going to bed or leaving home. The incident serves as a timely reminder that vigilance at home remains essential during the holidays, even as celebrations continue across the Principality.
