AS Monaco and Paul Pogba have jointly announced the end of their partnership, terminating the French international midfielder’s contract ahead of the new season’s opening fixture, just over a year after his move to the club at the start of the 2025 season.

Both parties agreed that the objectives originally set for the partnership had only been partially achieved, leading to the decision to part ways ahead of schedule, with Pogba’s contract originally set to run until June 2027. The club expressed deep gratitude toward the 2018 World Cup winner for his trust and the professionalism he showed throughout his time in Monaco, crediting him with a strong mindset, determination and consistent commitment across his time at the club, work that helped him return to top-level competition following a lengthy spell out of the game, while also sharing his experience and knowledge with the wider squad.

Speaking on behalf of the club, Director General Thiago Scuro thanked Pogba personally, describing the partnership as one the club was proud to have pursued despite the outcome falling short of what had been hoped for at the outset. Scuro acknowledged that the situation had always represented an ambitious gamble, but stressed that the disappointment of the final result shouldn’t overshadow the enthusiasm that had surrounded Pogba’s return to professional football, nor the fact that he had, over this period, returned to competitive action after such a long absence. Scuro particularly highlighted the impact Pogba had within the dressing room, especially among Monaco’s younger players, with whom he consistently shared his vast experience and offered guidance, describing his conduct throughout as exemplary and reflective of the champion he remains, before wishing him well for the future.

Pogba himself thanked the club’s president and leadership, his teammates, the wider staff, and the supporters who believed in him, describing his time representing the club and the Principality as an incredible experience. He acknowledged that he hadn’t played as many matches as he had hoped, but said he would always remain grateful for the opportunity to wear Monaco’s colours, closing his statement with the club’s traditional rallying cry, “Daghe Munegu.”
