AJ Auxerre’s French Cup campaign ended as soon as it began on Sunday, December 21, as AS Monaco left the Abbé-Deschamps with a 2–1 victory in the round of 32. It’s a second straight home setback for Auxerre, coming hot on the heels of their seven-goal Ligue 1 thriller lost to Lille.

Monaco struck early through Danish forward Mika Biereth, punishing a sluggish start from the hosts. Auxerre responded before half-time from the penalty spot, Assane Dioussé converting after Lamine Sy cut through Monaco’s defence to win the foul.

But Biereth proved the decisive figure again after the interval, grabbing his second of the match to end any hopes of a home comeback and send Monaco into the next round.

Auxerre are left to focus on domestic matters, while Monaco march on in the cup — and look dangerous doing it.
