Monaco has gained a new cultural landmark with the opening of La Bookinerie, a bookstore café that welcomed its first visitors this Wednesday in the Apoline Gardens…
The concept combines the pleasure of reading with the conviviality of a café, offering residents and visitors a welcoming space to buy books, enjoy natural drinks, and share ideas with fellow enthusiasts.
The founders, driven by a lifelong passion for literature, envisioned La Bookinerie as more than a traditional bookstore. Their goal, they explain, was to create a space of exchange and discussion, open to all generations, where people can feel at ease. After four years of planning and development in partnership with the Monegasque government, their project has now become a reality.
Although the shelves currently carry around one hundred titles, the stock will grow substantially over the coming weeks, covering a wide range of genres to appeal to different readers. Beyond books, the café element reinforces the sense of community, with healthy, natural drinks on offer to create a setting that nurtures both body and mind.
Recognising the absence of a dedicated bookstore in Monaco in recent years, the founders hope La Bookinerie will become a hub for literary life in the Principality. A programme of events is already planned, including book clubs and author meet-and-greet sessions throughout the year, ensuring the venue remains lively and dynamic.
La Bookinerie is open Monday to Friday from 10am to 7pm, and until 4pm on Saturdays, providing a new space where culture and conversation meet.
