Monaco’s firefighters are preparing to introduce an autonomous drone capable of reaching emergencies before crews arrive on the ground, providing them with an immediate view of the situation ahead…
The new “autodrone” is expected to become operational later this month and will be available 24 hours a day. When a fire engine is dispatched, the drone can automatically take off and travel to the same address, transmitting live images back to emergency teams as they make their way to the scene.
Developed in partnership with Flying High, the system remains in its final testing phase following extensive work with the Principality’s services. Its operation has also required the creation of designated no-fly zones, including above the Prince’s Palace, to comply with Monaco’s drone regulations.
Equipped with cameras for both daytime and night-time operations, the drone also features infrared technology capable of identifying areas of heat, potentially giving firefighters valuable information before entering an incident.
The Fire Brigade says the technology is a world first and has produced a video demonstrating how the system works.
Beyond its operational role, firefighters hope to showcase the innovation at conferences, professional forums and trade shows, highlighting a Monaco-developed approach that could influence the future of emergency response.
