As reported by Monaco-Matin, the Union des Syndicats de Monaco (USM) and the Union of State and Municipal Employees are expecting strong participation from workers across sectors including hotels, banking, catering, the arts and industry.
Among the USM’s principal demands are higher salaries and pensions, protection of existing retirement rights and the introduction of a gross minimum monthly wage of €2,680. The union argues that rising living costs are placing increasing pressure on workers and retirees and is also calling for salaries to rise automatically in line with prices.
USM secretary general Karim Tabchiche told Monaco-Matin that working conditions were deteriorating across sectors, arguing that Monaco was finding it increasingly difficult to attract qualified employees. The union intends to use Wednesday’s mobilisation to increase pressure in support of its demands.
Two separate processions are planned from midday, one departing from the forecourt of Saint-Charles Church and the other from Stade Louis II. They will converge at Place Sainte-Dévote before continuing towards Monaco’s Social Security Funds. The USM has called on employees, retirees and the wider population to participate.
