Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo leaps into a new season, with the company’s 50 dancers preparing for a combination of Monaco performances, international tours and major new productions…
Four new dancers have joined the company this season, including two who have progressed through the Princess Grace Academy. Following last season’s 40th anniversary celebrations, artistic director Jean-Christophe Maillot is promising plenty of opportunities for Monaco audiences to see both familiar works and new casts.
A major creative highlight will come in April, when Maillot revisits The Miraculous Mandarin, the work he describes as his original introduction to the Ballets de Monte-Carlo. The production will be completely reimagined with new choreography, sets and costumes.
The company will also return to the international stage, with tours planned to Baku, Brussels, Antwerp and, for the first time, Rabat. The Moroccan visit will feature Cinderella and carries particular significance as the company includes a dancer of Moroccan origin.
Maillot himself will travel to Paris in October, where his work will feature during the opening of the Paris Opera season, marking another important collaboration between the two companies.
Back in Monaco, audiences can expect works including Altro Canto, Cinderella and The Taming of the Shrew, alongside more recent repertoire.
The new Monaco season begins at the end of October with Romeo and Juliet, one of the company’s defining works, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
