French singer and actor Patrick Bruel has been taken into police custody in Paris as part of an ongoing investigation into a number of historical sexual assault allegations, according to reports in France…

As reported by Monaco Matin, the 67-year-old was questioned by officers from the Paris judicial police on Monday morning under the supervision of the Nanterre prosecutor’s office. The investigation reportedly concerns several complaints dating back more than two decades, including allegations of sexual assault, attempted rape and rape.

Among the cases now under review is a complaint connected to Monaco. Monaco Matin reports that prosecutors are examining an allegation made by a cultural journalist relating to an alleged attempted rape said to have occurred in the Principality in 2000. The Monaco case forms part of a broader inquiry that has brought together several complaints from different periods and locations.

The publication reports that investigators are also examining allegations linked to incidents in Mexico, Metz and the Dinard Film Festival, as well as complaints made by a former employee of Bruel’s record label.

Bruel strongly denies all allegations and remains presumed innocent. His lawyer has stated that the singer has never forced or coerced anyone into a sexual act.

The investigation continues, with French authorities expected to determine the next procedural steps following questioning.
