A 41-year-old Latvian man has been sentenced to two years in prison and banned from Monaco for ten years after appearing before the Principality’s criminal court on multiple theft-related charges, as reported by Monaco Matin…
The defendant, arrested in late April by Monaco’s Public Security Department, was accused of a series of offences committed since July 2023, including the theft of a luxury watch valued at €24,000 from Monaco Watch Company. Investigators also linked him to the theft of designer shoes worth €1,100 from Zegna and several other stolen luxury items.
The man had already been convicted in Monaco in December 2024 for theft and attempted theft, receiving a five-year ban from the Principality. Prosecutors argued that he knowingly returned despite the restriction and described him as a repeat offender operating across several European countries.
During questioning, the defendant admitted to some offences while denying others, at one point claiming that medication and compulsive behaviour had influenced his actions. His lawyer argued that mental health issues should be taken into account and criticised the court’s refusal to order a psychiatric assessment.
The court ultimately found him guilty of seven offences, ordering the confiscation of seized items in addition to the prison sentence and territorial ban.
