Stéphanie Vikström has formally taken up her role as Monaco’s first ambassador to Sweden, presenting her credentials to Carl XVI Gustaf during an official ceremony at the Stockholm Palace on Thursday, April 16.

The appointment marks a significant step in Monaco’s diplomatic strategy, reflecting the Principality’s intention to expand its presence across Northern Europe. Vikström becomes the first ambassador representing Monaco to be accredited to Sweden, underlining a growing focus on strengthening bilateral ties in the region.

Officials say the move is rooted in shared priorities between the two nations, particularly in international cooperation. Monaco and Sweden have long aligned on key global issues, notably in the protection of seas and oceans, support for marine research, and the broader push for environmental sustainability.

During her audience with the King, discussions focused on opportunities to deepen collaboration and reinforce relations between the two countries. Vikström’s accreditation signals a new chapter in Monaco’s diplomatic outreach, as the Principality looks to broaden its influence and engagement with like-minded nations beyond its traditional European partners.
