In Monaco, the spotlight shifted from performance to personal stories as musicians stepped forward to share the realities behind their art…

During a special conference titled Musicians Tell Their Stories, audiences discovered the human side of orchestral life—far beyond the concert stage.

For more than an hour, three members of the orchestra—double bassist Frédéric Chaline, woodwind player Mathieu Petitjean and cellist Delphine Peron—offered rare insights into their journeys. Speaking candidly, they described the challenges of a demanding profession, the sacrifices required, and the deep bonds formed within the orchestra.

The event provided a unique opportunity for the public to connect with musicians they usually only see performing. Without revealing too much of their private lives, the speakers gave a glimpse into what draws artists from around the world to Monaco, highlighting the orchestra’s rich international makeup, with 17 nationalities represented.

Beyond personal anecdotes, the discussion also reflected on Monaco’s long-standing relationship with music and its place in European cultural history. It was both a celebration of the past and a look toward the future.

The initiative will continue, with the next session scheduled for June 11, offering audiences another chance to go beyond the music and meet the people behind it.
