AS Monaco have strengthened their defensive options with the arrival of Wout Faes, who joins the club on loan from Leicester City until the end of the season. The agreement includes an option to make the move permanent.

At 27, the Belgian international brings a wealth of top-level experience and is no stranger to French football. Faes returns to Ligue 1 after two seasons with Stade de Reims, where he established himself as a cornerstone of the Champagne club’s defence between 2020 and 2022.

Born in Mol, Belgium, in April 1998, Faes developed through several academies in his home country before signing his first professional contract with Anderlecht in 2016. His early career also took him to the Netherlands, where he gained valuable first-team experience with SC Heerenveen and Excelsior Rotterdam, before returning to Belgium with KV Oostende. There, he built a reputation as a reliable and physically imposing centre-back, making more than 60 appearances in the top flight.

His move to Reims marked a turning point. Over two seasons in Ligue 1, Faes became a defensive leader, combining solidity at the back with a threat from set pieces. His performances earned him a transfer to Leicester City in the summer of 2022, where he experienced both the Premier League and the Championship, amassing over 120 appearances across competitions.

On the international stage, Faes has been capped 28 times by Belgium national football team. Having represented his country at every youth level, he has since featured at major tournaments, including the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024.

Now set for a new chapter in the Principality, Faes will wear the number 25 shirt for AS Monaco. His arrival adds experience, physical presence and familiarity with Ligue 1 as the club looks to reinforce its squad for the remainder of the season.
