A generous donation from the association Enfants Cancers Santé has allowed the Monaco Scientific Centre (CSM) to acquire a state-of-the-art video microscope, marking a major step forward in paediatric cancer research…

The new equipment, paired with advanced image analysis software, enables scientists to observe tumour cells in unprecedented detail. “Tumours are extremely heterogeneous,” explained a CSM researcher. “With this microscope, we can now capture and assemble multiple high-resolution images, giving us both a broader perspective and the ability to zoom in on fine cellular details.” This precision allows researchers to better identify tumour vulnerabilities and explore new treatment approaches.

Every year, around 2,500 children in France are diagnosed with cancer, and tragically, 400 to 500 of them do not survive. Through donations like this one, Enfants Cancers Santé helps fund vital research aimed at improving survival rates and ensuring that no child is ever told “nothing more can be done.”

Researchers at the CSM work closely with international teams across Europe and beyond, reinforcing Monaco’s contribution to the global fight against childhood cancer. As they note, “every donation, big or small, helps science move forward.”
