Monegasque rugby is enjoying a golden moment after the Monaco Rugby Sevens (MR7) claimed a second consecutive tournament win, this time in Dax…

Just a week after lifting the trophy in Mont-de-Marsan, the team powered through another stage of the In Extenso Super Sevens, defeating Montpellier 14-0 in a dominant final performance. Along the way, they dispatched Union Bordeaux Bègles, Racing, and Toulon, securing not only back-to-back titles but also early qualification for the 2026 Paris finals.

This double triumph is more than just silverware; it reflects the growing strength and organisation of rugby in the Principality. Behind MR7’s success lies a wider movement, strengthened by a new partnership between the Monegasque Rugby Federation and ASM Rugby. Announced this summer, the agreement formalises years of collaboration and focuses on pooling resources to develop the sport at every level — from youth training to professional competition.

ASM Rugby president Thomas Riquet explained that the partnership is not a merger, but a strategic alignment to share expertise, medical resources, equipment, and commercial opportunities. The aim is to ensure that both sevens and fifteen-a-side rugby continue to thrive, with values such as respect, discipline, and inclusion at the heart of the project.

The initiative enjoys the strong support of Princess Charlene, whose South African heritage has made her a passionate ambassador for rugby in Monaco. Already, the Principality has welcomed international tournaments, Olympic qualifiers, and youth championships, while local teams have achieved European titles and victories at the Games of the Small States.

With MR7’s current form and the Federation’s commitment to growth, Monaco has cemented its place as a rising rugby hub, uniting community values with elite performance on the international stage.
