A new exhibition at the Boketto Gallery in Mareterra invites visitors to step outside the ordinary flow of time…

American artist Maria Kozak presents a series of intuitive, poetic paintings created through spontaneous, almost automatic gestures. Her work explores the human relationship to time—often caught between memories of the past and anticipations of the future—and calls for a return to presence and connection with nature.

One particularly personal piece, Shame Flowers, is inspired by Kozak’s childhood in suburban America. In a landscape of neatly trimmed lawns and carefully curated gardens, wildflowers were seen as invasive. She told Monaco Info: “I didn’t plan it this way,” she reflects, “but it reminds me of when I was young and those wildflowers, once seen as weeds, now feel like the most beautiful, natural thing.” Today, she sees manicured lawns as sterile symbols of conformity, in contrast to the authenticity of untamed nature.

Through her work, Kozak invites us to slow down, to notice, and to reimagine our surroundings. This exhibition is not just visual, it’s reflective. It encourages viewers to rediscover the beauty of the present moment, and to reconcile art, nature, and daily life in a more meaningful way.
