The Principality has once again become a global stage for creativity as the 18th edition of the Mondial du Théâtre was inaugurated this morning at the Rainier III Auditorium. The opening ceremony welcomed distinguished guests including Mélanie-Antoinette de Massy, Honorary President, and Isabelle Berro-Amadéi, Minister of Foreign Relations and Cooperation, setting the tone for a week-long celebration of artistic exchange.

Running from Wednesday, August 20 to Wednesday, August 27, the festival transforms Monaco into an international crossroads of storytelling and performance. Established in 1957 and held every four years, the event is organised by the Studio de Monaco with the support of the Prince’s Government. Unlike many global festivals, the Mondial du Théâtre remains proudly non-competitive, emphasising theatre’s unique ability to foster dialogue across cultures.

Eighteen countries from five continents will showcase their work, ranging from experimental minimalism to vivid folkloric productions. Performances will take place at both the Théâtre des Variétés and the Théâtre Princesse Grace, with three shows staged nightly from 18:00, each followed by a brief intermission to reset the stage. Entry is free, encouraging broad public participation.

Beyond the spotlight, the festival village at the Rainier III Auditorium serves as its beating heart — a space for encounters between artists and audiences. Daily workshops led by international experts, alongside evening symposia, will invite both professionals and enthusiasts to explore the craft more deeply.

Opening night will see theatre troupes from the United States, Cuba and Slovakia take to the stage, marking the start of a week dedicated not just to performance, but to cultural diplomacy.
