The new exhibition Where is Venus? at Espace 22 on Boulevard d’Italie is a vivid celebration of women’s strength, beauty, and independence…

Created by Polish artist Beata May, the show features striking depictions of the female form — from nude studies to portraits of powerful athletes — all rendered with a distinctive brushstroke that captures both vulnerability and resilience. Each work carries a unique symbol, Beata May’s signature imprint, reinforcing the individuality of each subject.

According to the artist, sport is a recurring theme in her work, symbolising not only physical strength but also the connections and mutual support that empower women in everyday life. Swimmers, in particular, feature prominently, representing grace, endurance, and the determination to push beyond limits.

Where is Venus? goes beyond aesthetic appreciation to make a statement about autonomy and self-expression. Through the lens of art, Beata May invites viewers to consider how strength manifests in different aspects of a woman’s life — whether in the determination of a professional athlete, the poise of a dancer, or the quiet confidence of an unguarded moment.

The exhibition also challenges traditional portrayals of Venus, the classical symbol of beauty, by framing her not as a distant ideal but as a living, evolving embodiment of modern womanhood. It is both a tribute to and a rallying cry for female empowerment.

Running for two weeks, Where is Venus? is open to the public until August 22 at Espace 22, offering visitors a chance to experience a deeply personal yet universally resonant homage to women.
