Monaco has once again underlined its determination to help eradicate global hunger, as it took part in the 44th session of the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Conference held in Rome from Saturday, June 28 to Friday, July 4.
The Principality’s participation follows closely on the heels of the FAO Director-General’s visit to Monaco on 10 June and signals Monaco’s continued support for multilateral action in the face of mounting food security challenges.
This biennial gathering of FAO member states focused on reshaping global food systems towards sustainability, with special emphasis on innovation as a driving force for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). With Zero Hunger (SDG 2) slipping out of reach in many regions, the conference highlighted the urgent need for renewed global solidarity and investment.
Coinciding with the FAO’s 80th anniversary, the session also launched a roadmap for institutional reform, aiming to modernise the organisation’s governance and bolster its ability to meet present and future challenges.
Monaco, which has long championed the fight against hunger, reiterated its commitment to active engagement in the upcoming reform process and called for more effective, responsive action from the FAO — particularly in a time when key donor funding is dwindling.
To reinforce that commitment, the Principality joined the FAO’s Flexible Voluntary Contribution (FVC) Fund in 2024, becoming one of just thirteen countries to contribute. This fund enables the FAO to respond rapidly to emerging crises and back innovative, high-impact projects in the field.
