This summer, Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum unveils “Colors! Masterpieces from the Centre Pompidou”, a spectacular exhibition celebrating its 25th anniversary with a vibrant tribute to art’s most powerful tool…

Following last year’s record-breaking Turner exhibition, which drew 65,000 visitors, this season’s focus shifts from a single artist to colour itself, showcasing works that span styles, eras, and emotions.

Opening on 8 July, the exhibition brings together icons such as Matisse, Miró, Picasso, Kandinsky, Basquiat, and Chagall. Curated in collaboration with the Centre Pompidou, it presents paintings, sculptures, and design objects arranged in chromatic circles, immersing visitors in colour’s profound influence on artistic creation. While the initial impression groups artworks by their dominant hues – blues, yellows, reds – deeper layers explore how colour transformed between classical and modern art, and how it shaped interiors through 20th-century design.

Beyond visual delight, the exhibition engages all senses through an innovative sensory journey: each colour room is paired with specific sounds, created by Rocky Rivas and his team, offering visitors a multi-sensory portrait of colour’s emotional resonance. “It’s a process of workshops and collaboration to define the qualities of each sound that matches the colours,” Rivas explained, highlighting the meticulous preparation behind the experience.

“Colors!” is not just an exhibition but an adventure, inviting viewers to rediscover familiar masterpieces in new ways and reflect on colour’s universal impact. With seven colours and seven curated soundscapes, it promises a deeply immersive journey celebrating freedom of expression and the boundless possibilities of art. For Monaco residents and summer visitors alike, the Grimaldi Forum once again proves itself as a cultural beacon on the Riviera.
