It was all about sun cream, shade and sensible habits at Port Hercule today, as second-year students from Monaco’s Nursing Training Institute (IFSI) hosted a public awareness event focused on the dangers of sun exposure and the importance of protecting skin health.
As part of their public health service programme, the students set up an interactive workshop by the swimming pool, engaging directly with locals and visitors to share practical advice on how to stay safe under the summer sun. With support from Dr Cavalié-Meiffren, dermatologist at the Princess Grace Hospital Centre (CHPG), the group explained the key habits that can help prevent sun damage.
The message was clear: avoid direct exposure to the sun during peak hours between midday and 4 pm, seek shade whenever possible, wear appropriate protective clothing such as UV-resistant swimwear for children, and apply sunscreen suited to your skin type regularly, ideally every two hours.
The day’s activities were designed to be accessible and engaging, turning health advice into everyday, practical knowledge. Visitors were encouraged to ask questions and take part in the discussions, fostering a friendly and informative atmosphere.
The event was also a proud moment for the IFSI students, who were joined by their class sponsor Jacques Pastor and Benoîte Rousseau de Sevelinges, Director of the CHPG. Both expressed their support for the young nurses’ commitment to public health beyond the walls of their institute.
Through this initiative, Monaco’s future healthcare professionals demonstrated that prevention and education are vital tools in safeguarding community health, reminding everyone that protecting your skin should be as much a part of summer as the sunshine itself.
