The Monaco Yacht Club played host to a distinguished gathering on Wednesday, June 25, as the National Day of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta was celebrated in the Principality. Around one hundred guests came together for the occasion, reinforcing the enduring bond between Monaco and the historic Order, despite the absence of the Princely Family, who were attending Expo Osaka in Japan.
Ambassador Alberto di Luca, representing the Order, warmly welcomed attendees alongside his wife Emanuela, First Counsellor Cecilia Casiraghi, and Counsellors Giangi Serena di Lapigio and Mauro Torre. The ceremony opened with the national anthems of both the Principality and the Order of Malta, setting the tone for an evening of reflection, unity, and purpose.
In his address, Ambassador di Luca paid tribute to five decades of cooperation through the Monegasque Association of the Order and fifteen years of formal diplomatic ties. “Our partnership with Monaco is more than symbolic—it delivers tangible results,” he stated, highlighting joint humanitarian projects that have brought vital assistance to Lebanon, Senegal, and children with cardiac conditions at the Centre Cardio-Thoracique de Monaco.
Against the backdrop of global uncertainty, the Ambassador reaffirmed the Order’s unwavering mission: “In 2025, as conflicts and crises test international stability, the Sovereign Order of Malta stands firm as both a sovereign entity and a humanitarian force. Guided by our motto, Tuitio Fidei et Obsequium Pauperum—Defence of the Faith and Service to the Poor—we pledge to be a beacon of peace, justice, and hope.”
A significant announcement came with the unveiling of a new humanitarian initiative due to launch by year’s end. In collaboration with Rotary Clubs from Monaco, Dubai, Milan Morimondo, and Bethlehem, the project aims to establish an innovative global cooperation model, placing Monaco at the centre of international humanitarian efforts.
The evening’s formalities gave way to an exceptional artistic interlude, introduced by Maurizio Di Maggio of Radio Monte Carlo. Baritone Alberto Gazale, accompanied by Maestro Marco Francesco Schirru on piano, captivated the audience with a stirring performance. The musical excellence drew praise from Monaco’s Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Christophe Robino, who lauded the evening’s cultural and humanitarian spirit.
The celebrations concluded with a cocktail reception, offering guests an opportunity to forge new connections and reflect on the shared values of service and solidarity that define both the Order of Malta and the Principality of Monaco.
