The son of a prominent Ukrainian oligarch has been arrested in Monaco in connection with a wide-reaching money laundering investigation…

As reported by France Info, Oleksandr Boguslaev, son of Vyacheslav Boguslaev, the former president of Ukrainian industrial giant Motor Sich, was taken into custody on April 28 by Monegasque authorities. He is suspected of laundering hundreds of millions of euros allegedly embezzled by his father and channelled into real estate investments.

The arrest forms part of a broader judicial inquiry launched by the National Organised Crime Court (Junalco), in collaboration with prosecutors in Ukraine, France, and Monaco. Although released without charge or judicial supervision at this stage, the investigation is ongoing, according to Monaco’s Attorney General.

Vyacheslav Boguslaev, currently detained in Ukraine, is facing serious accusations of collaboration with the Russian military. He is alleged to have supplied helicopter engines to Russia following the start of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, and is being held on war crimes charges.

According to Le Monde, suspicions of illicit property acquisitions have been building since early 2023. In France alone, prosecutors believe 14 properties were purchased between 2010 and 2023, primarily on the French Riviera, at a total value of approximately €57 million.

Monaco’s role in the investigation underscores its growing international cooperation in financial crime cases, particularly those linked to politically exposed persons. While no charges have yet been brought against Oleksandr Boguslaev, legal proceedings are expected to continue in coordination with French and Ukrainian authorities.
