In a reversal of earlier indications, the Principality has confirmed it will remain a partner of TV5Monde, the international French-language channel…

As reported by Monaco Hebdo, the announcement came as something of a surprise following comments made during budget debates in December 2024, when the late Minister of State Didier Guillaume suggested Monaco would be exiting the network as part of a broader restructuring of its audiovisual sector.

Guillaume had stated that Monaco Info and TV Monaco would merge into a single, high-performance television channel by September 1, 2025. At the time, he said the Principality would have either left TV5Monde or be on the verge of doing so. However, recent developments have shifted that trajectory.

According to a TV5Monde press release dated March 18, 2025, His Serene Highness Prince Albert II met with Kim Younes, President and CEO of TV5Monde, earlier this month to reaffirm Monaco’s commitment to collaboration. This follows a February meeting between TV5Monde management and Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, then interim Minister of State, aimed at establishing a partnership more aligned with Monaco’s international cultural influence.

A key component of the renewed partnership will be Monaco’s participation in TV5Monde’s coverage of the upcoming United Nations Ocean Conference (UNOC 3), which takes place in Nice from June 9 to 13, 2025. The event will receive wide media attention through TV5Monde’s platforms, in collaboration with TV Monaco and France Télévisions.

While the full details of Monaco’s future audiovisual strategy remain to be clarified, the continued partnership with TV5Monde signals an ongoing desire to elevate the Principality’s presence on the international stage through strategic media alliances.
