The energy inside the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans was electric as fans witnessed a thrilling Super Bowl showdown, but for His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, the event also provided an opportunity to reconnect with key figures on the global stage. The Prince, an avid sports enthusiast, was among the high-profile guests attending the 59th edition of the Super Bowl, where he crossed paths with U.S. President Donald Trump.
Seated near the Trump family, HSH Prince Albert II enjoyed the game in a setting that was more about camaraderie than politics. The two leaders, who had previously met during the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris, exchanged pleasantries, celebrating their shared love of sports. Their meeting was captured in a photo posted on the Monaco Embassy’s Instagram account, alongside Mike Powers, president of the Monaco USA association.
While official discussions were not on the agenda, some observers speculated that HSH Prince Albert II, a prominent advocate for environmental causes, might have taken the opportunity to encourage President Trump to reconsider his stance on climate policy. The Sovereign has long championed global environmental initiatives, and in an interview last November, he expressed his willingness to engage in a “coordinated approach” with experts to persuade the U.S. administration to take stronger action on climate issues.
Beyond the football spectacle, Prince Albert’s visit to Louisiana had a deeper significance. His itinerary included stops at several events surrounding the Super Bowl, including a luncheon hosted by the Wall Street Journal and an exclusive reception by Gayle Benson, owner of the New Orleans Saints.
One of the highlights of his trip was a visit to Sankofa, a community initiative promoting local food production and environmental sustainability in the Lower Ninth Ward. The Prince was welcomed by Helena Moreno, president of the New Orleans City Council, who shared her excitement on Instagram, calling it “an incredible honour to host the Prince of Monaco.” She praised his dedication to global environmental progress, particularly in the areas of climate action and water conservation, and emphasised his ongoing support for New Orleans.
HSH Prince Albert II’s ties to the city go beyond diplomacy. His great-grandfather, Prince Albert I, was married to Princess Alice, a New Orleans native born in 1857. During a previous visit in 2018, the Prince paid tribute to this historical connection by visiting 910 Royal Street, the house where Princess Alice was born. The residence, located in the heart of the city’s historic Vieux Carré (French Quarter), still bears a plaque commemorating its Monégasque heritage.
