The annual New Year’s Ceremony of the Directorate of Public Safety took place under the presidency of His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, alongside the Minister of the Interior, Lionel Beffre, and Monaco’s senior officials…
Eric Arella, Director of Public Safety since September, addressed key developments from 2024 while reaffirming Monaco’s commitment to exemplary security standards.
Monaco’s public safety remains a global benchmark, with 620 officers and staff safeguarding the Principality’s 2 km² territory. Advanced surveillance, including nearly 1,300 cameras, ensures quick response times. Despite a modest 4.1% rise in crime last year, incidents remain low, with just over 1,000 cases recorded. Burglaries increased slightly from 11 to 17, a manageable figure in the region’s context. Road safety also saw increased vigilance, with a 6% rise in accidents, prompting upcoming legislative measures to address reckless driving and substance use.
Arella outlined plans to reinforce security further, including enhancing neighbourhood outreach, bolstering school engagement, and exploring advanced tools like facial recognition. These efforts, alongside cutting-edge image analysis software, reflect Monaco’s proactive approach to maintaining its high safety standards.
The ceremony also honoured the memory of the late Minister of State, Didier Guillaume, whose contributions to Monaco’s governance were fondly acknowledged.
As Monaco transitions into 2025, its focus remains steadfast on ensuring safety, fostering trust with its residents, and upholding its reputation as a safe haven. With a dedicated public safety team and innovative initiatives, the Principality stands prepared to address new challenges while retaining its commitment to security and community well-being.
