Monaco continued its annual celebrations honouring Sainte-Dévote, the Principality’s patron saint on Monday, January 27. The day began with a solemn pontifical mass at the Cathedral of Monaco, led by His Excellency Archbishop Paul Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States at the Holy See. His Serene Highness Prince Albert II, Her Serene Highness Princess Charlene, Mayor Georges Marsan, and other local dignitaries gathered alongside residents to pay homage to Sainte-Dévote.3

Due to unfavourable weather, the traditional procession of Sainte-Dévote’s relics was held within the cathedral instead of its usual outdoor route. Following the service, a warm reception took place in the Salle des Mariages at Monaco’s Town Hall.

During his address, Mayor Georges Marsan emphasised the importance of preserving this cherished tradition, saying, “The Town Hall is a proud guardian of these beautiful customs. Among our annual celebrations, the feast of Sainte-Dévote holds special significance, passed down through generations. It is a cornerstone of our calendar and a profound moment for our collective identity.”

This year’s festivities welcomed delegations from Monaco’s twin towns, including José Galetti, Mayor of Lucciana in Corsica; Fulvio Gazzola, Mayor of Dolceacqua in Italy; and representatives from Ostend, Belgium, Maxim Donck and Fabrice Goffin.
