The charming streets of Monaco-Ville have grown quieter following the temporary closure of the Petit Bar, a beloved dining spot nestled on the Rocher. Its manager, John, known for his infectious energy and passion for hospitality, is currently in critical condition after a serious road accident in Cap-d’Ail on Saturday. The news has left the community reeling and sparked an outpouring of support.
John, a 45-year-old Australian who has helmed the Petit Bar since 2019, is widely celebrated for his unique charisma and culinary expertise. His friends, Eric and Julie, have described him as “a whirlwind of personality,” blending five languages in a single conversation and winning over locals and visitors alike with his candid charm.
Since the accident, John has been in a coma, leaving the future of the Petit Bar uncertain. His close friends Eric and Julie have stepped up to launch an online fundraising campaign to keep the restaurant afloat during his absence. “We want to ensure the Petit Bar remains ready for him to step back into when he recovers,” Eric said.
The fundraiser, hosted on the platform “La Cagnotte des Proches,” aims to cover essential costs such as employee salaries, rent, and maintenance. Within just 48 hours, more than 100 donors contributed, demonstrating the deep connection John has forged within the Monaco community.
“This isn’t just about keeping the lights on,” Eric explained. “It’s about preserving everything John has built here—a space filled with laughter, incredible meals, and unforgettable conversations. This is our way of giving back to someone who has given so much,” Eric told Monaco-Matin.
As the Petit Bar temporarily closes its doors, the hope remains that John will make a full recovery and return to his beloved restaurant. To contribute to the campaign and support the Petit Bar during this challenging time, visit: lacagnottedesproches.fr/cagnotte/le-petit-bars-help.
