The 2025 Formula 1 season is set to feature a dynamic driver lineup with significant changes across several teams. Among the most notable developments is Lewis Hamilton’s move to Ferrari, where he will partner with Monaco’s own Charles Leclerc.

Hamilton, a seven-time World Champion, has departed Mercedes after an 11-year tenure to join the Scuderia on a two-year contract reportedly worth 100 million pounds. In preparation for his integration into the Italian team, Hamilton is learning Italian, a move encouraged by F1 CEO Stefano Domenicali to help him embrace Ferrari’s culture. Leclerc, who has been with Ferrari since 2019, expressed enthusiasm about Hamilton’s arrival, viewing it as an opportunity to learn from the seasoned champion and a motivation to enhance his own performance. The Monegasque stated, “It’s going to be incredible to have Lewis on the team.” Ferrari Team Principal Fred Vasseur anticipates that the collaboration between Hamilton and Leclerc will be beneficial, suggesting that their combined experience and skill will drive the team toward greater success.

With Hamilton’s departure, Mercedes has promoted young talent Andrea Kimi Antonelli to race alongside George Russell. Antonelli, who has shown promise in junior categories, is expected to bring fresh energy to the team as they aim to reclaim their dominance in the sport. Red Bull Racing has also made significant adjustments, bringing in 22-year-old Liam Lawson to partner with reigning World Champion Max Verstappen. Lawson replaces Sergio Perez, whose performance in the previous season did not meet the team’s expectations. Team Principal Christian Horner expressed confidence in Lawson’s abilities, citing his resilience and readiness for the challenge. Meanwhile, the Lawson shaped hole left behind at Red Bull Alpha Tauri by Isack Hadjar, who becomes the third Frenchman on the grid, a first since 2020.

McLaren retains its lineup with Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, both under long-term contracts. Aston Martin continues with Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll, aiming to build on their previous successes. Alpine welcomes Jack Doohan to race alongside Pierre Gasly, introducing a blend of youth and experience. Williams secures Carlos Sainz, who joins Alex Albon following Sainz’s departure from Ferrari to make way for Hamilton. Sauber/Stake/Audi introduces an all-new lineup with Nico Hulkenberg and rookie Gabriel Bortoleto, signalling a fresh start for the team.

As teams finalise their preparations, the 2025 season promises to deliver thrilling competitions and intriguing team dynamics, with fans being able to catch a first glimpse of the overhauled driver lineup at the the Australian Grand Prix at Albert Park in Melbourne on Sunday, March 16.
