Monaco is preparing for a major overhaul of its public broadcasting system, with plans to consolidate TV Monaco and Monaco Info into a single independent channel by September 2025.
Minister of State Didier Guillaume announced the new channel would operate independently, governed by a board of directors and a strategic council. The funding model will combine public resources with private advertising revenue, ensuring sustainability without complete reliance on state funds.
The initiative comes amid scrutiny of TV Monaco’s 24 million euro budget, which represents over one percent of state expenditure and is three times larger than the National Council’s budget. National Council member Franck Lobono commended the production quality of Monaco Info, despite its limited resources compared to TV Monaco. The Director of the Prince’s Government’s Communications Department, Geneviève Berti has been tasked with leading the transition, and she will receive a mission letter in January outlining her role in shaping the new channel.
Monaco’s departure from the international TV5 Monde network also forms a key part of the strategy. Having joined the network in 2021 with a 5.3 percent capital share, Monaco’s withdrawal is expected by the end of 2025. TV5 Monde, which has faced internal challenges, including investigations into workplace issues, is reportedly considering a group of seven African nations as potential replacements.
