To mark the 75th anniversary of Monaco’s accession to UNESCO, a commemorative reception was held on Wednesday, December 11, by H.E. Anne-Marie Boisbouvier, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary and Permanent Delegate to UNESCO. The event, hosted at her residence, concluded a year of celebrations and unveiled a special book published for the occasion.
The book, a collaboration between Monaco and UNESCO, was presented to HSH Prince Albert II in late November and is published by Éditions de La Martinière. Ambassador Boisbouvier expressed her gratitude to UNESCO’s Archives Service for its valuable contributions to the documentary research and to photographer Cyril Bailleul, whose work enriches the publication.
Guests at the reception had the opportunity to meet the book’s authors, Jean-Philippe Vinci, Director of National Education, Youth, and Sports, and Stéphane Lamotte, Doctor of History. Under the patronage of HRH Princess of Hanover, President of the Editorial Committee, the book features insightful historical content and is enhanced by educational comic panels illustrated by artist Damien Mac Donald.
Adding to the evening’s highlights was an immersive video presentation of the metaverse exhibit New Perspectives, organised by the Monaco National Committee for Visual Arts. This exhibition, which celebrates Monaco’s contributions to culture, education, and science, remains open to the public at the Quai Antoine I Exhibition Hall in Monaco until December 20, 2024.
The event welcomed over 70 distinguished guests, including numerous ambassadors and UNESCO representatives, reflecting the strong international presence tied to this milestone. Monaco first joined UNESCO on July 6, 1949, by signing the Convention on the Rights and Obligations of Member States. Over the past year, the Permanent Delegation of Monaco has organised numerous events focusing on culture, education, and science to highlight the Principality’s global commitment and showcase the efforts of its organisations in these fields.
