On Sunday evening, December 1, a passer-by discovered a man with stab wounds to the abdomen and thigh, lying covered in blood at Square Lamarck, a quiet spot connecting Monaco and Beausoleil.

The victim, a Beausoleil resident employed in Monaco, was rushed to Pasteur Hospital in Nice for surgery and is now stable and out of danger. Later that evening, Monegasque police arrested the suspect, a thirty-year-old Menton resident of foreign nationality, on Boulevard d’Italie without resistance. After 48 hours in custody, the individual was charged with attempted murder and placed in provisional detention at Rocher Prison.

The Monaco Public Prosecutor’s Office confirmed the investigation is focusing on an ambush scenario.

The weapon, a knife, has not yet been recovered, and it remains unclear if the suspect confessed or if witnesses have provided accounts. As reported by Monaco Matin, authorities have indicated no signs of mental incapacity in the accused, who was not previously known to police. The victim, also unknown to law enforcement, has since been questioned by French police as part of the cross-border investigation.

This incident marks the third knife attack in the Moneghetti district since 2019, highlighting a troubling pattern. Previous cases include domestic violence and a stabbing in a state apartment, both involving severe injuries. Public Safety investigators are now working to unravel the links between the suspect and victim while ensuring such acts are prevented in the future.

The full details of the incident, including the relationship between the two individuals, remain under investigation as officials seek to piece together the circumstances of this shocking attack.
