As the end-of-year celebrations approach, Monaco’s government has unveiled an enhanced security plan to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the festive season…
Lionel Beffre, the Government Advisor and Minister of the Interior, who assumed office on August 5, 2024, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and order during this busy period.
“The goal is to ensure the end-of-year celebrations go as smoothly as possible,” Beffre stated. His approach involves intensified efforts by Monaco’s Public Safety Corps, which currently consists of 620 agents, half of whom are urban police officers deployed on the ground.
Key measures include increased patrols on public roads, thorough checks at the Principality’s entrances, heightened surveillance of transport hubs like the train station, and strategic road and commercial area monitoring. Beffre highlighted that the security apparatus would adapt to the needs of specific days, ensuring adequate coverage without overburdening resources.
Eric Arella, head of Public Safety since September 2024, reinforced Beffre’s sentiment, stating, “We must remain vigilant, as we are every year, with the majority of urban police dedicated to the festive period.”
In addition to general security, protecting sensitive sites is a top priority. Religious establishments, the Christmas village, nightlife venues, and sporting events are all under heightened watch to preempt any disturbances during the celebrations.
This focus on safety coincides with a 4.2% rise in emergency interventions by Monaco’s firefighters as of mid-November 2024. Beffre’s commitment to a secure festive season reflects the government’s dedication to fostering a safe and enjoyable atmosphere, ensuring Monaco remains a haven of holiday cheer for all who visit.
