Monaco’s National Day celebrations on November 19, 2024, will feature a rare and impressive spectacle as the Republican Guard Cavalry Regiment makes its return to the Principality after 128 years…

Twelve riders, accompanied by their majestic horses, will take part in the parade on the Place du Palais, showcasing a symbol of French state protocol and military tradition.

This prestigious mounted unit, the only one of its kind in France, is renowned for its role in state ceremonies, parades, and protocol duties. It conducts an astounding 4,600 patrols annually in Paris, ensuring security and tradition in equal measure. The cavalry’s last appearance in Monaco dates back to March 5, 1896, when President Félix Faure was welcomed with grandeur at the Prince’s Palace. Escorted by 250 mounted cuirassiers on his journey from Nice, only 50 riders were permitted to enter the Cour d’honneur due to structural limitations of the palace courtyard.

This year, under the command of Colonel Marie-Audrey Leheup—the first woman to lead the Republican Guard cavalry regiment—and Squadron Leader Marc Lepretre, the cavalry will add an extra layer of elegance and heritage to the National Day parade. Their participation reflects the strong ties between France and Monaco, paying homage to tradition and diplomacy.

As the riders parade on the Place du Palais, they will embody the enduring spirit of ceremonial excellence, adding a touch of historical grandeur to Monaco’s most cherished national celebration.
