The polar regions will take centre stage on Thursday, November 21, 2024, at 5:00 PM, as the Dante Alighieri Committee of Monaco hosts a round table discussion at the Oceanographic Museum, focusing on the scientific priorities and international missions of Italian polar research…
Titled “Les missions polaires Italiennes et pas seulement: Comment, Quand et Pourquoi”, the event will examine the Arctic and Antarctic—two territories recognized as particularly vulnerable to climate change. Under the High Patronage of H.R.H. Princess of Hanover and with the support of the Italian Embassy and Monaco’s Directorate of Cultural Affairs, the event is co-organized with the Oceanographic Institute, Albert I Foundation.
A distinguished panel of experts will provide insights into the critical challenges facing these fragile regions. Speakers include Carlo Barbante, Director of the Institute of Polar Sciences (CNR) and Professor at Ca’ Foscari University; Nathalie Metzler, Deputy Director of the French Polar Institute; Florence Descroix-Commanducci, Director of the IAEA; and several other renowned researchers and policymakers. Discussions will also feature video contributions from polar mission scholars and remote experts.
Monaco, a global hub for oceanographic research since the pioneering efforts of Prince Albert I, continues its legacy under H.S.H. Prince Albert II, whose foundation is dedicated to planetary health and conservation. This event highlights the principality’s unique role in advancing polar science and addressing global environmental challenges.
Admission is free. Reservations are required before November 18 at info.dantemc@gmail.com or +377 97 70 89 47.
