Held over several days, the French-speaking congress combines masterclasses and practical workshops with discussions on advances, challenges and areas of continuing debate within emergency medicine.
Organisers highlighted the increasingly important role of emergency departments as a first point of contact for patients, particularly as populations age and more people live with underlying health conditions requiring specialist hospital facilities.
This year’s programme also draws on experiences from major emergency situations, allowing medical professionals to examine both the treatment of patients and the wider organisation of healthcare services during a crisis.
Alongside doctors from France and elsewhere, industry representatives are attending to present new technologies and innovations relevant to emergency care and medicine more broadly.
The congress also provides an opportunity for networking and exchanging practical experience. Speakers stressed that emergency physicians frequently work with patients and families in distress, requiring not only technical expertise and rapid decision-making, sometimes within seconds, but also an essential human connection at some of life’s most difficult moments.
