Three former Harrods employees have come forward with allegations of rape against Salah Fayed, brother of Mohamed Al-Fayed, during their ownership of the London department store. In interviews with the BBC, the women detailed assaults that occurred between 1989 and 1997 in locations including London, Monaco, and the south of France.
One woman, Helen, claims both Mohamed and Salah assaulted her. She alleges Mohamed raped her in a Dubai hotel room in 1989 and later transferred her to work as Salah’s personal assistant, where she says she was drugged and raped by him. Another woman recounts waking up in fear as Salah entered her bed during a trip to Monaco, while a third described being assaulted by Salah in Monaco and London. All three allege Salah introduced them to drugs and manipulated them.
Salah Fayed, who died of cancer in 2010, and Mohamed Al-Fayed, who passed away in 2023, are both subjects of mounting allegations. London police have stated they are aware of the accusations against Salah and are reviewing all available evidence. The current management of Harrods has expressed support for the victims and encouraged them to seek justice and compensation.
The accusations follow a September BBC documentary that brought attention to multiple claims of rape and sexual assault against Mohamed Al-Fayed, leading to over 420 contacts with the group Justice for Harrods Survivors. Police are also reexamining 21 testimonies submitted before Mohamed’s death to assess the adequacy of their investigations.
