The Princely Government has announced the anticipated opening of a new “Fontvieille” footbridge in June 2025, a strategic addition to Monaco’s pedestrian infrastructure aimed at easing road congestion and promoting sustainable mobility. The footbridge will extend the current Wurtemberg footbridge, creating a seamless pedestrian pathway from the Salines park-and-ride facility to the districts of Fontvieille and La Condamine.
Designed by Monegasque architects François Lallemand and Christian Curau, the project will include two public elevators and a staircase linking to Avenue de Fontvieille, enabling convenient pedestrian access. The footbridge initiative, which aligns with Monaco’s broader goals to reduce intra-city vehicle traffic, was approved unanimously by Monaco’s municipal council.
Elected official Jean-Luc Puyo, who presented the project, noted, “The new footbridge will streamline pedestrian flow from the Wurtemberg footbridge and enhance connectivity across the area.” The architecture of the Fontvieille footbridge will mirror that of its predecessor, featuring under-ramp lighting for improved visibility and safety. Additionally, Wurtemberg Square below the new structure is set for a comprehensive redesign as part of the project.
This addition is a crucial step in Monaco’s commitment to enhancing urban mobility options, offering residents and visitors a quicker, more accessible route to key city districts.
