In observance of World Stroke Day on October 29, Monaco AVC, the Principality’s leading stroke charity, is championing awareness and prevention measures to combat the widespread impact of stroke. Globally, stroke is the second-leading cause of death and third-leading cause of disability, with an annual financial toll exceeding 721 billion dollars.

Founded in 2021 by Steven Saltzman, a stroke survivor and Monaco AVC’s president, the organization provides education, resources, and a network for those affected by stroke in Monaco and the surrounding region. With over 100 cases in Monaco each year and 13 million people impacted worldwide, Monaco AVC emphasizes the importance of rapid response in emergencies, recommending that anyone experiencing symptoms such as facial drooping, arm weakness, or speech difficulty use the FAST acronym and immediately call emergency services.

Saltzman highlighted Monaco AVC’s commitment to community education, support, and partnerships with medical institutions like CHU Hospital Pastor in Nice, which offers specialised stroke care. He also praised Monaco’s “Sapeurs-Pompiers” first responders, who ensure timely support in emergencies, as part of Monaco’s dedication to world-class stroke care.

As Monaco AVC looks ahead, Saltzman underscored the charity’s dedication to prevention initiatives, advancing access to advanced care, and building a robust community network for survivors. on World Stroke Day, Monaco AVC will host an event at the AMU Roof restaurant in the Fairmont Monte Carlo, bringing together patients, supporters, and medical professionals to raise awareness and support resilience in stroke recovery.
