Charles Leclerc claimed a strong third-place finish at the Mexico City Grand Prix, securing a double podium for Ferrari alongside teammate Carlos Sainz, who triumphed for his fourth Formula 1 victory. Leclerc drove consistently at the front, benefiting from penalties handed to Max Verstappen, who lost ground after clashing with Lando Norris early on.
The race began with Verstappen briefly snatching the lead, but Sainz quickly regained first position on Lap 9. As Verstappen and Norris tangled in a fierce battle that resulted in two 10-second penalties for the Red Bull driver, Leclerc took advantage to move into second behind Sainz. However, as the race progressed, Norris mounted a charge, overtaking Leclerc in the final stages when the Monegasque ran wide and had a close call with the barriers.
With Ferrari’s Sainz securing victory by 4.7 seconds, Leclerc held steady for a valuable podium spot, finishing ahead of Mercedes drivers Lewis Hamilton and George Russell. Red Bull’s Verstappen, hampered by penalties, finished in sixth place on the day.
The next race on the Formula 1 calendar will see the teams take on the Brazilian GP on Sunday, November 3.
