HSH Prince Albert and his daughter, Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, traveled to New York for the 40th annual Princess Grace Awards, honouring young American talents in the performing arts. Held at the Pierre Hotel on Wednesday, October 23, the gala not only celebrated emerging artists in film, theatre, and dance but also highlighted a special honoree, Oscar-winning actor Michael Douglas. Douglas, who was presented with the prestigious Prince Rainier III Prize by Prince Albert, was recognised for his exceptional career and philanthropic contributions.
Accompanied by his sons Cameron and Dylan, Michael Douglas received the honorary award, which was established in 2005 to honour individuals for their lifelong impact on the arts and society. Douglas, a longtime friend of Monaco, had previously been honoured by Prince Albert and Princess Charlene in 2019 at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. His presence at this year’s ceremony added significant star power, underscoring the international reach of the Princess Grace Foundation’s mission to support and nurture young artists.
The evening also saw the reintroduction of the Princess Grace Statue Award, awarded to screenwriter Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and theatre director Lila Neugebauer, both receiving 25,000 dollar grants. In total, 18 individuals were awarded for their achievements, with 11 additional honorary recognitions.
Jazmin Grace Grimaldi, relatively private in recent years, made a notable return to the red carpet alongside her father. She continues to pursue her passion in the American arts scene, accompanied by her musician partner, Ian Mellencamp. The event, steeped in the legacy of Princess Grace, serves as a poignant reminder of the enduring connection between Monaco’s royal family and the world of performing arts.
