Two years after Storm Alex devastated the Alpes-Maritimes, HSH Prince Albert has reiterated Monaco’s commitment to helping the affected valleys rebuild and recover. Following the storm’s impact in October 2020, Monaco promptly offered financial aid to restore and protect the cultural heritage of the Roya, Vésubie, Tinée, and Moyen Var valleys.
This commitment took shape through a partnership with the Fondation du Patrimoine to fund 30 reconstruction projects, totalling three million euros, focused on preserving historic buildings and infrastructure damaged by the storm. On Tuesday, September 10, Prince Albert II visited the region, accompanied by Prefect Hugues Moutouh and local officials, to discuss these ongoing efforts and highlight Monaco’s continuous support.
Reflecting on the bond between Monaco and the Alpes-Maritimes, Prince Albert emphasised the principality’s strong connection with the region, describing the swift action taken after the storm to provide logistical and human support for rescue operations. He stressed the importance of solidarity in the face of such challenges, noting that Storm Alex had underscored the resilience of the close-knit communities in these valleys.
In the coming weeks, the Prince is expected to attend the inauguration of key projects that have been made possible through Monaco’s financial backing, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing recovery efforts.
