HSH Prince Albert visited Roumoules in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence on Wednesday, September 11 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Radio Monte-Carlo (RMC) transmitter centre. The centre, which opened in 1974, has been crucial in spreading RMC’s voice across France and Italy, effectively amplifying Monaco’s presence on the European airwaves.

During his visit, Prince Albert II unveiled a commemorative plaque, accompanied by local officials including Prefect Marc Chappuis and Mayor Gilles Megis, as well as representatives from Monaco Media Diffusion.

Beyond celebrating the milestone of the transmitter centre, the visit also highlighted the historical connections between Roumoules and the Monegasque dynasty. The village once belonged to the Grimaldi-Régusse family in the 17th century, and Prince Albert II unveiled a new sign designating Roumoules as part of the ‘Grimaldi Historical Sites of Monaco’.

The day concluded with a ceremony at Place de la République, where Prince Albert II was granted honorary citizenship of Roumoules, further cementing the ties between the Principality and the Provençal community.
