Monaco intensified its mosquito control efforts overnight from Thursday to Friday following a confirmed case of indigenous dengue fever involving a resident of Menton working on the Rock. To combat the potential spread of the Aedes albopictus, or “tiger mosquito,” insecticide spraying took place between 02:00 and 04:00 in Monaco-Ville.

The targeted intervention was organized by the Health Action Directorate in collaboration with the Interdepartmental Agreement for Mosquito Control of the Mediterranean Coast (EID). This action follows an earlier campaign earlier this week aimed at preventing an outbreak in the area frequented by the patient.

Some residents expressed frustration on social media, calling for a broader mosquito control effort. However, health authorities clarified that the operation was limited to a 150-meter radius to effectively address the localised risk. The incident marks the second case in the region after a case in La Colle-sur-Loup last month, with 11 additional cases identified in La Crau in the Var department.

Authorities have advised residents to keep their windows closed and avoid outdoor activities during the spraying hours. For those experiencing symptoms like coughing, dizziness, or nausea, medical advice should be sought immediately.
