On Monday, August 12, AS Monaco will travel to the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium in Barcelona to compete in the Joan Gamper Trophy against FC Barcelona, marking the Catalan club’s 125th anniversary.
Barcelona, which has held this traditional friendly match every August since 1966 in honour of its Swiss founder Gamper, chose Monaco for the 59th edition. This decision came after the Professional Football League (LFP) postponed the Champions Trophy, originally set for Thursday, August 8 in Beijing, where Monaco was scheduled to face Paris Saint-Germain.
The match between Barcelona and Monaco will take place on Monday, August 12, slightly later than initially planned to allow Barcelona’s players to rest following their North American tour. Before selecting Monaco, Barcelona had considered inviting Olympique de Marseille, AC Milan, or Werder Bremen, according to Mundo Deportivo.
This prestigious match will serve as a significant event for Monaco and its coach, Adi Hütter, just days before the start of the Ligue 1 season.
