The eighth edition of artmonte-carlo will be held on July 6 and 7, 2024 at Monaco’s Grimaldi Forum, under the patronage of HSH Prince Albert. The art salon will host 27 leading international galleries of modern and contemporary art in an elegant atmosphere and meticulous scenography and will showcase over 200 artists.

Initiated in 2016, artmonte-carlo is a salon d’art whose intention is to establish a quality art event on the Côte d’Azur, meeting the demands of the region’s many collectors and art lovers.

Karolina Blasiak Art Advisory sat down with Charlotte Diwan, the new director of the fair.

This year marks the eighth edition of artmonte-carlo.  What are you most looking forward to as the new director, and as someone who knew the fair intimately in your previous position as artmonte-carlo communications director.

I am delighted to take over the reins of artmonte-carlo, a now well-anchored event with a strong potential for growth, and am grateful for the opportunity to leverage my previous experience in a leadership role.

Following a first experience in this role last January for artgenève, I understand organising a fair is truly a collective effort, and I have gained invaluable insights through exchanges and being surrounded by key figures. I am fortunate to have a team of energetic and professional individuals alongside me, as well as two crucially supportive committees .

We are taking steps to strengthen what we believe is the core identity of artgenève and artmonte-carlo: A fair of an intimate and elegant format, with a diverse offer of high-quality works of art.

The fair is an ecosystem – Geneva is the flagship, and Monaco generally being a salon type of an experience with less galleries, how do you plan to engage with and further differentiate the fair from its other editions.

While both fairs have undeniable similarities, they also differ in terms of size, programming and public.

As part of our initiatives for artmonte-carlo, we are enhancing our communication strategies and collaborations to raise the fair’s notoriety. While this is a long-term ambition, we are already taking steps in this direction for the upcoming edition.

We are also reinforcing our local presence by developing collaborations and off-site events that more deeply involve local stakeholders.

These efforts aim to attract new audiences to the fair and its participants. Exhibitors are at the heart of our operations, and it is necessary to make every effort to enhance the fair’s appeal for them.

What advice would you give to someone attending artmonte-carlo for the first time?

I would recommend visitors to take advantage of the rich cultural offer of the Principality during artmonte-carlo including the Turner retrospective at the Grimaldi Forum, Miquel Barcelo at the Nouveau Musée National de Monaco, and attending events of the Monaco Art Week!
