Meteo France has upgraded the rain and flooding alert for the neighbouring Alpes-Maritimes from Orange to Red from 03:00 on Friday morning.

After a lull during the day on Thursday, “a very marked rain-storm” will move into the south-eastern corner of France.

Early in the day, the forecast was for a 100-percent certainty of rain from 21:00 on Thursday evening, lasting for 12 hours. The start of the heavy rain has now been predicted for midnight, with Red Alert conditions from 03:00.

The rain will be accompanied by strong winds and gusts.

A number of establishments used by the public have said they will remain closed on Friday morning, including the Monte-Carlo Country Club and all of Monaco’s schools.
