Axel Disasi has not ceased to impress since signing for Monaco in 2020, establishing himself as a solid starting centre back and even team captain on a few occasions, while also playing in every Ligue 1 game last season. This consistent performance saw Disasi go all the way to the final of the Qatar World Cup with France, and subsequently onto the radar of major clubs.
Despite being heavily linked with a move to Manchester United, Disasi signed with the red devils’ Premier League rivals Chelsea, swapping the Stade Louis II for Stamford Bridge in a move worth 45 million euros.
Another stellar bit of business for Monaco, who acquired Disasi from fellow Ligue 1 side Reims in 2020 for 13 million euros, and have benefitted from his involvement in the club’s success over the last two seasons.
Disasi will be reunited with former teammate and compatriot Benoit Badiashile, who left Monaco for Chelsea in January, 2023 for 37 million euros. With both tall French centre backs spoken for by Chelsea, and a nice chunk of change in their coffers, Monaco have already found a new defender in the form of Mohammed Salisu, who joins the Principality side from Southampton in a deal worth 15 million euros.
The summer transfer window is far from being over, with other players rumoured to leave. However, Monaco supporters should be excited for the signing of 24 year-old Salisu. Meanwhile, a new challenge awaits Disasi in central London.
