The latest theft of a luxury watch in Cannes has prompted the authorities to advise owners not to wear the valuable timepieces “too ostentatiously.”
The German tourist was attacked from behind during the robbery, which happened two hours after sunset near the Carlton hotel on the Croisette.
The Patek Philippe – worth in the region of 80,000 euros – was wrestled from the victim’s wrist, not without a struggle, but the culprit was able to escape on a scooter driven by an accomplice.
The local police have said they are particularly focussed on fighting the scourge of watch thefts, adding that the number of reported cases is so far down on last year.
