AS Monaco have kicked off their pre-season tour of England in style with a confident 1-3 victory over La Liga side Real Betis behind closed doors at St George’s Park on Wednesday, July 19.

Despite the best efforts of the travelling Monegasques, of which there were many, an eventful first half ended with an empty scoreline. However, it was in the second half that Adi Hütter’s men came alive.

A red and white counterattack saw Takumi Minamino find Kevin Volland at the near post, and the German striker did not hesitate to open the scoring for Monaco with a goal at the 56th minute. Not yet satisfied, Volland found the back of the net again 10 minutes later, this time with a more subtle strike to extend the Monegasques’ lead to 0-2.

It was then the turn of Minamino to score, and that he did only another ten minutes later to make it 0-3 for Monaco. The Spanish opponents managed to get one back at the 81st minute, but Monaco had already stolen the show with a 1-3 victory.
