Negotiators from Monaco, Andorra and San Marino met the Vice-President of the European Commission on Tuesday, July 4.
Isabelle Costa, Monaco’s High Commissioner for European Affairs, accompanied by HE Mr Frédéric Laberre, Ambassador, Head of the Mission of Monaco to the European Union and Ms Kristel Malgherini, Advisor to the Prince’s Cabinet, all took part in a working lunch chaired by Mr Maros Šefcovic, Vice-President of the European Commission.
The delegations from Andorra and San Marino were respectively led by Landry Riba, Secretary of State for European Affairs, and Luca Beccari, Minister for Foreign Affairs, international economic cooperation and telecommunications.
The meeting was an opportunity to take stock of the work of the first half of the year 2023 and to agree on a common agenda for the months to come. Cycles of monthly negotiations are planned: each cycle providing for a multilateral meeting day (European Union, Andorra, Monaco and San Marino) and a one-day bilateral meeting between the Commission and each of the States.
Participants also had a constructive exchange of views on provisions common to the three countries in the draft agreement. Isabelle Costa hailed “the positive climate in which these negotiations are taking place, which should lead to a mutually satisfactory agreement for Monaco and for the Member States of the European Union because it is in our mutual interest to structure our legal, economic and political relations.
